Out with the old fridge...
So, today we got our new fridge delivered. I can't say I'm sad to see the old one go. It done us fine up until now; in fact, since I came here six years ago, plus several teachers before me. But it's been making a lot of noises, and frankly, we'd been running out of space in the freezer, with the addition of Conan's home-made baby food we've been cooking up.
One interesting cultural tidbit, although it's not all that funny to be honest. For a small fee, the shop will take away our old fridge and "recycle" it. They even borrow the word they in Japanese, "ri-sai-ku-ru." Sadly, "ri-sai-ku-ru" in reality means "take it to some near-by landfill site." So, no components will actually be "recycled"; save for maybe the freon removed.
